Junior Councillors

Leaders of the Future?

The young people of Catshill and North Marlbrook are proving that you’re never too young to make a difference. We are proud to introduce our Junior Councillors, a dedicated group of students who are actively sharing their views and shaping the future of our community.

The initiative was sparked by visits to Catshill Middle School and Catshill First School by members of the Parish Council. With the enthusiastic support of school leaders, it became clear that our local pupils were keen to get more involved in civic life.

Following these visits, the students formed their own official group—complete with their own unique logo—to ensure the youth of our village have a powerful, collective voice.

Making Their Voices Heard

The Junior Councillors represent a wide range of year groups, bringing together diverse perspectives on what it’s like to live in Catshill.

The group serves two main purposes.

  • Direct Feedback: Students share what they love about the area and identify things they would like to see improved.
  • Skill Building: Termly meetings are integrated into the school’s Life Skills programme, helping students develop leadership, public speaking, and community-organising skills.
  • We look forward to seeing what these bright young leaders achieve next!

This is an on-going commitment to understanding the opinions of our younger residents. By listening to their views, we can work together to make Catshill and North Marlbrook a safer, better-improved area for everyone.

Real Impact in the Community

The project is already moving beyond the classroom. The Junior Councillors have attended a Full Parish Council meeting, where they presented their ideas directly to the Parish Councillors. The presentation was incredibly well-received and has set the stage for an ongoing partnership.

What are they working on?

While the group has suggested big projects like a new skate park and initiatives to reduce litter, they are also focused on local wildlife.

One of their first hands-on projects involves distributing hedgehog gates for residents to use in their gardens, helping to create safe corridors for our local nature.
